For Authors

Self-Published Author Application

this process is for self-published authors. If your work is published by a traditional publisher, email us with the ISBN and we’ll look into stocking it: info@monkeykatbooks.com.

We recognize the growing trend of self-publishing, and we’d like to support our local, self-published authors by carrying their titles. Offering local, self-published authors allows us to stock the greatest selection of books for our community. While we welcome all eligible self-published authors to apply, priority will be given to authors from Lee County, North Carolina.

If your book was published through any of Amazon's services, we ask that you consider publishing any future titles through other platforms, Ingram Spark is a good option.

Amazon is not merely a competitor of independent bookstores. It is a predatory competitor, which has the stated mission of causing the independent bookselling industry to fail. Many of its anticompetitive practices are presently being challenged in court. It also treats self-published authors oppressively. Therefore, for good reason, we prioritize books created using other platforms.

We also prioritize authors who support MonkeyKat. We field many requests from local self-published authors. Because of the volume of requests, we are unable to stock every book in the store. If you are a customer and support independent bookstores, we are much more likely to stock your book.

How to Apply

  • Read and understand the statement above.

  • Complete the application form and mail a copy of your book to MonkeyKat Books ATTN: Katheryn Rice 105 Carbonton Rd, Sanford, NC 27330 along with a 1-page a synopsis. Please submit one application for each title.

  • We’ll review your application and book and get back to you within two weeks of receiving the book via mail.

  • If we decide your book is a good fit for our store, we’ll have you sign our agreement and get your book on the shelf.
